Woman before court for disturbing the peace, causing harm

Cape Coast, March 9, GNA-Francisca Tengay, 25-year-old hairdresser apprentice who allegedly fought with and bit off the upper lip of another woman was on Thursday granted 20 million cedis bail with two sureties to be justified by a circuit court at Cape Coast. She pleaded not guilty to disturbing public peace and causing harm. In the dock with her was Kate Wadie, her alleged victim, who pleaded guilty to disturbing public peace, but was also granted 20 million cedis bail with two sureties.

They are to reappear on Wednesday March 15.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that both women live at Abroafo-Odumasi, near Jukwa and that in the morning of February 24 this year, Francisca visited a friend who lives in Kate's house. He alleged that, while the two friends were conversing, Kate who felt they were casting insinuations at her, picked up a quarrel with Francisca, nearly resulting in a fight, but were separated by other tenants and Francisca left the house.

He also alleged that later in the day, Francisca went back to the house and again picked up a quarrel with Kate, and in an ensuing fight she bit off Kate's upper lip.

Chief inspector Azasoo said Kate was rushed to the hospital, but the lip could not be sewn back and a report was later made to the police.
