Former Minister Adjei Marfo fetes children

Akyem Awisa (E/R), Dec. 31, GNA - Dr Isaac Adjei Marfo, a former Minister of State, has expressed worry about the attitudes of some parents who abuse children's right with impurity. He said children had a right to protection from physical abuse adding that the constitution enjoyed parents to help develop their children socially and culturally.

Dr Adjei Marfo was speaking at a reception he organised for more than 4,000 children drawn from communities in the Birim South District at his residence at Akyem Awisa on Friday.

He reminded parents that children were their future assets and they should therefore ensure responsible parenting at all times by not throwing them into the streets or traffic them into slavery. Dr Adjei Marfo who had consistently organized such parties over the past eleven years said it was his little contribution to lift the spirit of the kids, especially those from deprived homes.

He said even though Christmas festivities were for children's enjoyment, not all parents would be in the position "to provide their children with rice and chicken, biscuits and soft drinks". Mrs Paulina Adjei Marfo, Director of Finance and Administration, Queensland International School at Sakumono, near Tema, advised the children to be obedient to their parents and teachers and avoid watching inappropriate videos and rather concentrate on their studies. The children entertained themselves to singing and dancing, musical chairs and bible quiz competition.

Children from Awisa Methodist church who emerged overall winners were presented with 35 cartons of canned drinks and 20 pairs of shoes. Mrs Adjei Marfo later distributed cooked food and soft drinks to patients on admission at the Akim Oda Government Hospital.
