Police in the Eastern Region have called for calm in the region especially in the Kwahu Afram Plains enclave where armed robbers have reportedly been terrorizing traders and other residents.

Residents for some time now have demonstrated to register their displeasure with the security officials operating in the region and the district for failing to deal with the upsurge in crime in the Kwahu and Afram Plains enclave.

This assurance from the police come on the backdrop of the sentencing of one Mohammed Fuseini who was arrested in connection with series of robbery incidents within the Kwahu enclave to serve 15 years in prison as handed down by the Mpreaso Circuit court presided over by the judge, Mariam Sinare.

The suspect, who was picked up by police in his hideout at Ekye Amanfrom on September 14th pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to commit crime to wit robbery and robbery and was sentenced on his own plea.

In an interview with Citi News, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said the over 15 suspects arrested within a week following two separate swoops indicates their readiness to combat crime in the region.

“In less than a week we have carried out two swoops all in the Kwahu Afram Plains areas and a total of 15 suspects were picked up in their hiding places. I must say we did not do this on our own but we acted based on intelligence which was provided by the general public and I must show our appreciation to all those who feed us with the necessary details we need to combat crime”.

“This shows we are committed to the plight of the people and also on top of our game and we will not stop until we make sure residents can go about their normal daily activities without fear or security challenges”.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh who said the police have been vindicated following reports linking some of the service’s personnel to the robbery, also called on the general public to volunteer information to assist them to clamp down on activities of criminals.

“Most of the suspects we have arrested are of Fulani origin and this goes a long way to vindicate the police because in the heat of the agitations a lot of people accused the police of masterminding and involving in the robberies which we challenged them to bring hard facts but after the public themselves gave us the information and we carried out the raid we are all witnesses to the fact that the police are not involved”.

“I will therefore, call on the general public not to relent on their efforts but continue to provide and assist the police with timely information to clamp down on activities of criminals.”
