Teachers urged to encourage students to research

Kumasi, July 31, GNA - A former Vice-Principal of the Kumasi Technical Institute has appealed to teachers and school authorities to device programmes that will encourage pupils and students to take interest in research.

Mrs Doris Amoyaw said such an approach to education, especially at the basic level, would help pupils and students become analytical in their reasoning and approach to studies.

Mrs Amoyaw, who is the headmistress of the Pat-Doramo International School, was speaking at the school's maiden Open Day at Kwadaso Estate in Kumasi on Saturday.

She said it was high time the education structure was remodelled to produce problem-solving leaders to facilitate socio-economic development.

"The nation will continue to wallow in poverty in spite of our rich human and natural resources if we do not explore a new approach to education", she said.

Nana Akosua Akyiamaa III, the Queen Mother of Juaben Traditional Area, cautioned the pupils to refrain from vices that could mar their potentials and God-given talents. Mr Newman Twumasi-Amponsah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, said the government was committed to encouraging teachers and urged them to exhibit dedication in their work.
