Christian Fellowships advised to focus more on peace

Kumasi, July 31, GNA - Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, on Sunday appealed to Christian fellowships and movements to give prominence to issues of peace in their activities and programmes.

He said peace was crucial to the survival of the nation, church and Christian groupings and should not be taken for granted. Most Rev Sarpong was preaching at a thanksgiving service at the St Peter's Minor Basilica as part of activities of the Second Subordinate and fifth Biennial Cape Coast Grand Convention of the Knights of St. John International.

The four-day convention is under the theme, "The Eucharist: Light and Life of a Knight and Lady of St. John International" and attended by about 1,000 officers of the Grand Order from West Africa.

Most Rev Sarpong stressed the need for Christians to let the teachings of the scriptures reflect more practically in their lives and be poised to share the message with their neighbours.

''Mastering the scriptures and regular attendance at church services alone does not qualify any one to be a Christian, unless that person is able to share and make such values reflect in his or her daily life,'' he said.
