The Graeter Accra Regional Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress Anthony Nukpenu has described as “rubbish and trash” the call by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) on President John Mahama to immediately apologize for making some comments deemed ethnocentric against the running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Were they (MFWA) in another world or just came to this country when NPP stalwarts like former finance and education minister Yaw Osafo-Marfo making tribal comments, what did they say, how about Dr Bawumia when he called the President Incompetent and corrupt Northern brother, where were they and now they have the guts to call on the president to apologize, he won’t”

A statement released by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) described president Mahama’s Comments as Ethnocentric, Divisive and Condemnable. The statement further stated that the MFWA considers the comments of President Mahama highly divisive and unfortunate adding that ss a leader of the country, President Mahama is expected to act in ways that will unite rather than condemns same in no uncertain divide the people of this country.

However the Greater Accra NDC chief considered the statement released by the MFWA selective and one sided. He noted that the institution only comes up alive when they (MFWA) feel the ruling party has done something wrong. He recalled a statements that he said was made by the flag bearer of the NPP when he was on the campaign trail in Akropon, calling on the electorates in the Easttern Region to as it were vote for ‘one of their own’. Questioning if that statement did not qualify as tribal and ethnocentric?

“I am saying it here in Onua Fm studio that Prof Kofi Karikari and his cohorts are NPP folks, I challenge them to come out and deny, we know them, even Prof Karikari demonstrates his love for the NPP when he is teaching at Legon, can he deny, it is no more a secrete so they can go on to release such ‘nonsense’ ” Anthony told Bright Kwesi Asempa.

He maintained that President John Dramani Mahama will not render any apology and he will not be forced to do so.
