Dambai Ferry Setback Is A Sign of Victory – Krachi Chief

The Tufohene of the Krachi Traditional Area in the Krachi West District of the Volta Region, Nana Baffour Mireku Okosende II, says the setback encountered by the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a sign of victory.

Last Tuesday, the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and his campaign team were stranded for over two hours at Dambai after the ferry that was supposed to convey them to the other side of the river got stuck.

Although some people suspected foul play, operators of the ferry explained that a truck, which was moving onto the ferry, skidded and partially plunged into the river which made it impossible for the ferry to move, until the truck was towed.

However, Nana Okosende II, who spoke on behalf of the Krachiwura, described the incident as a good omen for the NPP and its flagbearer.

 
Nana Will Be President
He said, “I was very excited when he heard the news about you (Nana Addo) being stranded at the ferry site. It is good fortune because God knows you will become President so that you will be able to construct it.

He therefore urged Nana Addo to ensure the construction of a bridge over the river to facilitate movement of people and goods.

“If you become President and refuse to remedy the situation at the ferry point; it's your own cup of tea.”

The Tufohene said as chiefs they would support any candidate that would emerge victorious in the December polls.

“We have hope that when God gives you the nod, you will be able to fulfill your promises.”

He also commended Nana Addo for adopting the “Battle is Lord's mantra, saying God never disappoints those who put their trust in Him.

He said Nana Addo would emerge victorious in his third attempt at the Presidency.

 
Compensation Brouhaha  
The chief was unhappy that the Mahama administration halted the payment of legitimate compensation to people in the Krachi area.

He said the Volta River Authority (VRA) project greatly affected the area, as the river submerged 11 settlements and properties such as palaces, historic sites, among others.

He however expressed skepticism about the President's recent promise to resume payment of the compensation after the same government halted it which forced the traditional area to file a suit in court.

He disclosed that they spent huge amount of money on legal services to claim what is rightly theirs owing to the action of the current Mahama administration.

 
Give Us a New Region
Nana Okosende II reiterated the request of the Krachiwura for the creation of a new region for Northern Volta to be called Oti Region with Kete-Krachi as the capital.

He said the area can boast of a prison, police station, fire station among other strategic infrastructure to serve as the regional capital.

He bemoaned the deplorable nature of the roads in area and also called for potable water for the people.

 
I will Fulfil Promises – Nana Addo
Nana Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of the Krachi Traditional Area for the outstanding support.

He assured them that he would fulfill all his promises and pay the compensation if given the nod.

Nana Addo announced an integrated infrastructure programme that would ensure that adequate infrastructure development in all districts in the country.

He also assured them of a transparent and truthful government that would be accountable to the people.
