On Wednesday, the Electoral Commission (EC) said aspiring presidential and parliamentary candidates could be disqualified from contesting the 2016 election if they failed to declare their assets with the Auditor General.

And in business news, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the disbursement of some $116 million to Ghana.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Thursday said the president breached the country's gift policy in accepting the controversial Ford gift given by a Burkinabe contractor Djibril Kanazoe.

Although the PPP and CPP leagues who petitioned CHRAJ over the issue felt vindicated, the Commission said that President Mahama's action did not breach the bribery, corruption or conflict of interest laws of the country.

Due to a case filed by the PPP challenging the legality of the Commission’s decision to take the deposits, the Commission declined a GH¢50,000 filing fee from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP's) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

And in Sports, President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi became the first Ghanaian to serve on FIFA's powerful cabinet after securing one of two FIFA Executive Council slots.

Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates continued to file their nominations on Friday but the EC shockingly accepted the PPP's Ȼ50,000 filing fee.

With 67 days to the elections, the NDC withdrew its parliamentary candidate for Kwahu Affram Plains South, Joseph Appiah.
