Accra, Sept. 29, GNA - Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has organized a health walk for its staff in Accra.

A statement issued by UMB and copied to the Ghana News Agency said last year, the management of the bank initiated the annual staff health walk to bring to the fore the importance of exercising and healthy living.

It said as part of the health walk, UMB staff members raised funds to support the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital and at the end of the walk, UMB presented an amount of GHȼ10,000.00 to the hospital to enhance their operations.

Three hundred UMB staff from the Greater Accra Region and Koforidua branches of the bank were joined by some of the bank's customers as well as staff from the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital for a day of exercise and fun.

The 12 kilometre walk began in the car park of UMB's Head Office in the SSNIT Emporium building, proceeded to 37 Military Hospital, moved to the Kawukudi Junction, through Dzorwulu Traffic Light (Perez Junction), travelled down to African Regent Hotel and concluded in the car park of UMB'S Head Office.

Mr John Awuah, the Chief Executive Officer of UMB, who was among the first to complete the walk, said the physical well-being of staff members is a top priority for the bank and the annual health walk is one way that the bank is raising awareness on the importance of exercising.

Ms Yvonne Botchey, the Director of Marketing and Communications of UMB, said 'UMB will continue to place the health of our employees at the very top of our priorities and as a socially responsible bank we will also support important institutions such as the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital."
