Ga-Dangme Youth Threaten Demo Against GAR House Of Chiefs Registrar

By Prosper Agbenyega

For some time now, the transfer of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs Registrar, Harry Anthony Attipoe has been dragging due to the failure on the part of the registrar to leave for his postings.

Despite several letters affirming the registrars transfer by his sector Minister, the registrar, Harry Anthony Attipoe continues to disrespect his orders.

According to the spokesperson for the Coalition of Ga-Dangme Youth, Emmanuel Okoe Thomy, the failure on the part of the registrar has rendered the incoming registrar Emmanuel Tetteh Adoquaye jobless and redundant as he is idling about in the region without doing any job.

"My investigations have it that Attipoe's refusal to leave for his postings have rendered the incoming registrar redundant as he has no office to work. Attipoe has refused to hand over to the incoming registrar so the gentleman has no office to work and is currently idling about”

“Why should this be allowed to happen”? Mr Okoe Thomy asked.

The situation is however creating tension within the Ga Dangme area as the youth in the region are unhappy with the development.

According to the youth, the registrar is not setting good precedent to be followed by other civil servants and is calling for the registrar to be compelled to face the full consequences of his actions.

The youth has however threatened to demonstrate in the coming days to ensure the registrar Harry Anthony Attipoe is compelled to leave the office.

"Attipoe is not above the law and the office he occupies is not his personal office and cannot be allowed to run it as such"

Mr Thomy noted that though the Coalition of Ga Dangme youth had earlier called off an intended picketing, the decision was to allow the registrar exit his office peacefully.

"From all indications, Harry Anthony Attipoe wants to hijack the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and we the Ga- Dangme youth will not see that happen," he said.

"We shall storm there in our numbers and demonstrate with our placards to ensure the right thing is done"

The group also alleged that, the said Attipoe who until last year was the substantive registrar for The Kpone Traditional Council for about a decade has again failed to hand over to the incoming substantive registrar at Kpone after he was asked to do so by the sector Minister.

The Ministry of Chieftaincy in series of letters to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs Registrar asking him to go to the Volta region as part of its routine posting being undertaken by the ministry has all fell on deaf ears.

The registrar has since refused to heed to the directive for well over five months now.

The registrar in an interview with journalists at his Dodowa office said he will not proceed to his new transfer post which is the Volta region despite the Chieftaincy Minister's series of reminder letters.

According to Mr Attipoe, he is not working in anybody's interest but that of the chief's and will not proceed on any transfer until the chiefs asks him to do so.

The group has however vowed to ensure the registrar is brought to book with his disrespectful attitude towards the civil service.

"The Coalition of Ga Dangme youth do not have any personal grudge against Attipoe and we are not witch hunting but we are only seeking for the right thing to be done. Attipoe is a Civil Servant and is not above the law"
