NDC Green Book Campaign Goes Rural In Shai-Osuduku

Not wanting to take chances, Women Wing of the Greater Accra Regional chapter of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) party over the weekend, commenced its grass root mobilisation for the re-election bid of President John Mahama and his Vice, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur.

The women’s Wing which was led by what the party called a cream of powerful mothers, is composed of Mrs Felicia Mekpoi Bortey, Regional Women's Organizer and her two Deputies, Hajia Sidi Foster and Madam Happy Amegashie.

The powerful mothers as the are been described, took their campaign with a team of over 50 constituencies and branches women organisers to the rural areas of Shai-Osuduku constituency of the Dangbe West District.

The women wing of NDC several communities including Asuature, Volivo, Abuviekpong, Dzorkpong and their adjourning settlements in the Shai Osuduku constituency and interacted with the rural women.

The first point of call of the grass root campaign with the Green Book, was Asuature community, where they chat with the rural women farmers and shared the message of peace before, during and after the general elections.

While in Asuature, the NDC regional women took time to explain the government policies and projects been executed in the pictorial Green Book as well as project the government intend implementing in the second term of President John Mahama.

A number of women from other political parties in the Asuature community, especially members of the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party( NPP) were defected to the fold of NDC and branded in the party T-Shirts.

Mrs Felicia Bortey and her cream of powerful mothers, who witnessed the endorsement by the rural women at Dzorkpong concludes that President Mahama is clearly set to clinch 95 percent of the total votes in the region going by the large turn-out of residents and indigenes to the NDC campaign.

Going by the political scenario in Shai-Osuduku, especially in these rural communities, President John Mahama will win landslide in the forthcoming presidential election as there is a consensus of opinion that Mahama has been given a "blank cheque" in the region," she said.

The campaign in the rural communities, they explained is to establish and re-enforce the strong relation of the rural folks with the party which is being taunted as a grassroots political party in the country contemporary politicking.

According to the regional women organisers , their movements into the interior rural areas and townships, is yielding results and the gateway to building NDC support base and retain power.

Mrs Bortey told The Enquirer, the aim is to retain all parliamentary seat currently been occupied the party and also increase the vote margin to enable the President get a one touch victory

“We are going to claim our victory come December 7, 2016 , as we are busy on the ground with our message of Changing Lives and Transforming Ghana. This is the first time we are embarking on this kind of campaign, going to the rural folks, this is the true and proper listening campaign and that is why we the NDC are been described as grassroots party," said Mrs Bortey.

Her sentiments were echoed by the Regional Deputy Women Organiser, Hajia Siidi, who also said, “We are already on the ground and already have Message. We have even established structures in the communities and we are reaching out to them, to get their concerns and to relay same to the party for development."

While addressing the rural women, Felicia Bortey encouraged the women and the party supporters to ensure that their names are in the voters register in order to enable them to vote for the President and the parliamentary candidate, Ms Linda Akweley Ocloo.

“Please go and do a transfer to the community you live if your vote is not in this constituency, you cannot vote for the president and the PC if your name is not in register as voter in this constituency," she urged the residents.

She also asked the rural folks not to vote for the opposition NPP leader, Nana Akuffo Addo, for he is a visionless and divisive leader and when entrusted with the country, there will be no peace, adding he is a violence man and could bring political instability of which women and children would be the most victims.

The NDC women took time and explained the content of the Green Book and shared some to the community women leaders to keep for those yet to see the work to also glance through to know the extend of work done by John Mahama led government in the country.

NDC party branded T-shirts, sandals, scarfs and other paraphernalia's were distributed to the rural women as they all sang the NDC slogan, "Edey bee keke," JM toaso," amplifying their support to President Mahama and Linda Ocloo.

Some of the residents were extremely happy, because they said that was the first time political party leaders from the urban Accra visited their communities and share party items to them.

According to them, they will never dine with the "Angel they don't know,"(NPP) and vowed their support for President Mahama in the upcoming general elections.

Madam Tamata Tetteh, 42, said she has been dinning with the NDC party and do not intend changing her mind in the upcoming general election, but only requested for more pictorial poster of President John Mahama and the PC in their area.

Another woman identified herself as Diana whose son is in Asuature Senior High School said, she only need government to upgrade their community road to enable her children attend to school on time as the deplorable road affect their easy transportation to school.

The Greater Accra regional NDC women said, the rural communities campaign tour will be replicated in all the constituencies, after touring Bortianor, Prampram in the Bortianor/Ngleshie -Amanfrom and Ningo-Prampram constituencies respectively.
