Don't kill or fight your compatriot because of political power - Julius Debrah

The Chief of Staff has advised Ghanaians especially the youth not to do anything that will mar the peace being enjoyed in the country.

Julius Debrah said there is no point in killing or fighting each other because of political power, encouraging the residents to be each other's keeper and work in unison to promote peace in the country.

He gave the advice at the end of a peace walk organized in Wa as part of his campaign tour of the Upper West Region.

The walk which was organised by the Nandom Secondary School Old Boys Association (NASOBA), National Youth Authority with support from the National Peace Council was attended by several people including members of civil society organization and political parties.

"All political parties are saying the same thing which is about the development of the country. Why must you and I fight and kill because of politics, never allow that thing to happen in Wa,’’ he said.

Led by the Chief of Staff, they walked through some principal streets in the municipality with music from brass band before they converged at the forecourt of the Upper West Regional coordination council.

Representatives of five political parties namely Peoples National Democratic Congress (PNC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Convention People’s Party, Progressive People’s Party (PPP), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) together with the Electoral commission (EC) pledged their commitment to ensuring that the country has a peaceful poll in December.

The National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Awudu Abdulai stated that elections are about choices and there is no compulsion.

‘‘We must know that peace is non-negotiable and violence is never an option,’’ he stressed.

Upper West regional manager of the Ghana Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Abdul Samad Mohammed expressed worry about the increasing number of people killed through reckless riding during political activities.

He said the Region recorded 88 deaths in 2012; 74 in 2013; 54 in 2014 and in 2015 it went up again to 60. He appealed to motor riders to be extra careful and follow traffic regulations to avoid needless deaths.

National president of NASOBA, Sylvester Dery thanked the people for the massive turn up and appealed to the people of the Region not o do anything untoward that will destroy the relative peace in the region.
