Appeals continue to be made to old students to assist their alma mater to facilitate teaching and learning.

The Headmaster of Zion College at Anloga in the Volta Region, David Kukuia made this latest appeal at a sod cutting for the construction of an ultra-modern security entrance Gate.

The construction is been sponsored by members of 1982 Alumni (Aluta Group) of Zion Secondary School, Anloga.

The project which is estimated at a cost of thirty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 30,000.00) is to control both human and vehicular traffic through the main entrance of the school. The two lane gate will be separated by a security booth which will allow two vehicles moving in and out of the school premises at the same time.

The school authorities, last year requested a gate to be constructed to prevent stray animals and people from using the school premises as a short cut thereby disturbing the peace of students at lectures and other school activities.

Present at the ceremony, were the Municipal Director of Education, members of the 1982-year group popularly called 'Aluta Group' led by its chair, Mr. Jonathan Azasoo, who is also a Deputy Director at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Accra and some old students.

The Headmaster, Mr. Kukuia commended the association for its support to the development of the school and urged them to continue to contribute to the infrastructural development of the school. The headmaster also gave an update of progress of academic works and indicated a steady rise in the passing grade and rate of students. He informed the audience that the best aggregate in 2015 was 10 and that of 2016 was 8.He also made mention of the rise in the achievements in sports competition. In 2015, the school was first in the district but was second to KETASCHO this year.Mr. Kukuia revealed that, there is a dire need of infrastructure development and asked the old student Associations to continue to assist the school.

"A new boys' dormitory is stagnant at the foundation for many years now leading to overcrowding" the headmaster said.He said, currently, the school is building a sick bay for students through internally generated funds."Lack of assembly hall has compelled us to hold gatherings under the shade of trees" Mr. Kukuia recounted.

This was evidenced during the sod cutting ceremony. This situation exposes both students and teachers to the vagaries of the weather. The Head master entreated the old students to make the 80th anniversary grand celebrations.

Mr. Jonathan Azasoo of the NDPC assured the school authorities that the project will be completed before the 80th anniversary celebrations of the school next year.He pledged the association's support towards the development of the school and urged the students to be disciplined at all times and concentrate on their education for the betterment of their future.

Architectural work on the project was done by Mr. Tasiame Hope, member of the 1982 year group.

The school choir was on hand to entertain the gathering with great selection of hymns.
