Members of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), have called off their planned picketing today [Wednesday], at the Flagstaff House.

Last week, GRASAG gave government a week’s ultimatum to pay its members bursary and thesis grant or face their wrath.

The Association had lamented that the delay in the payment of the allowances, amounting to about GHc4 million, has put the students under undue financial stress and stifled academic endeavors.

But speaking to Citi News, National President of GRASAG, Rashid Kwesi Etuaful, said his association had reached an agreement with government over the payment, hence the decision not to picket anymore.

According to him, “The picketing is not coming on. We met government, the Minister for Education, and we have had some modalities as to how the monies will be paid and when we will be paid.”

Mr. Etuaful also explained that “the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education, has made some contact and they have given us the guidelines” adding that, “Government is going to officially communicate to the country when the payment will be done.”

He noted further that, the Association was leaving the official communication to government because “we want them to say it to the world so when they don’t go by it we can take them on.”
