AUG 31, 2016 LISTEN

Total Road Fund revenue accrued from January to July 2016 was GH¢627.4 million out of a projected GH¢1.2 billion for the year.

Revenue generation into the Fund improved following passage of the Energy Sector Levies Act 2016, Act 899.

This improvement in the fund is attributed to the revision in the fuel levy which was approved by Parliament early this year.

This revelation was made by Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, when he was addressing journalists at the Meet the Press series in Accra Tuesday.

The Energy Sector Levy Act was passed by Parliament to restructure and consolidate energy sector levies to promote the prudent and efficient utilization of proceeds derived from the sector.

The Road Fund, therefore, allocated a total of GH¢1.056 billion which is about 88 percent of the projected revenue to the three road agencies which includes, Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Feeder Roads and Department of Urban Roads.

This was to enable them to primarily undertake routine and periodic maintenance works and to settle outstanding debts.

The Fund also allocated GH¢10 million towards equipping the Ghana Police Service to improve road safety enforcement activities.
