Winneba, C/R), Aug. 25, GNA - Prudential Life Insurance Ghana Limited as part its corporate social responsibilities (CSR), has scaled-up its investment in the nation's educational sector; by awarding scholarship to 555 senior high school students.

Mr Emmanuel Motobi Aryee, the Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana Ltd said the $541,080 scholarship project which is being implemented by Plan International Ghana with funding from his organisation, aims at providing support to 555 brilliant but needy young girls and boys.

The beneficiary regions include Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Volta and Western Regions.

The five-year project seeks to safe guard the future of the beneficiaries and to give them an opportunity to pursue their ambitions and aspirations in life.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Winneba on the sideline of the scholarship launch, Mr Aryee said to date Prudential Life Insurance is already supporting 240 girls and 160 boys through high school.

He said the company as part of its CSR, works with charity organisations and other institutions to help improve well-being by investing communities in which they operate both through funding and through the experience and expertise of their staff.

'In Ghana, we are focusing on education. We operate the Cha Ching programme in partnership with Junior Achievement that uses exciting aids to teach children between the ages of seven-12 about key money concepts - 'Earn, Save, Spend and Donate' in the primary school setting,' he said.

'The programme is designed to improve access to information and activities that support the growing and critical need for financial literacy among African youth,' he said.

He explained that so far, the programme had been piloted in two schools and a total of 215 pupils had been taught by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana volunteers.'

He said the company also operates the Prudential Acturial Support System in partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University for Development Studies and the University of Cape Coast.

According to him, the system provides bursary awards to help high achieving actuarial science students in the universities build careers in the insurance industry.
