The First Turkish Fair opened at the plush Movenpik Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Wednesday with 51 exhibitors from Turkey exhibiting various products and seeking partnerships with local businesses in Ghana. It will end on Saturday.

At the colourful opening ceremony, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah noted that the event could not have come at a better time than now as Ghana has been witnessing a greater drive for mutually rewarding economic partnerships with nations across the world. He noted that Ghana has become a noted business and industrial destination because of the culture of good governance and an atmosphere of peace.

Dr Spio-Garbrah commended the Turkish businesses already existing in Ghana and called for more investment from Turkey, affirming that the government of Ghana has continued to put in place policies and legislations that will promote and facilitate economic partnerships that will create a win-win relationship for foreign investors and local partners.

He said Ghana would be proud to build partnerships with Turkish companies in so many areas where the country has considerable advantage of raw materials such as steel, lighting, furniture, cocoa, jewelries etc. “We have a large market and Ghana is a gateway to other countries for those who are willing to establish joint businesses with us”, he disclosed, adding that the government was daily tinkering with policies and working on promoting legislations that will continue to make Ghana attractive to investors.

The Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency, Nesrin Bayazit, in her welcome address, lauded the growing business relations between Turkey and Ghana, noting that the figures in recent time have shown that relationship between both countries has continued to witness growth.

She commended the growing political culture in Ghana. “The existing political stability and strong democracy have made Ghana a top investment and business destination in Africa”, she said.

Welcoming the business team, the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso commended the organisers for staging the Fair.

He appealed to the government of Turkey to facilitate Turkish businesses to establish production facilities in Ghana so as to take the economic relationship a notch higher. He also appealed for increased forcus on exchange of information, trade visits and other activities that will ensure continuous growth it trade relationship between both countries.

The Vice President of the Instanbul Chamber of Commerce, Mr Dursun Topcu said the Chamber, which represents the interest of over 400,000 members, has been organizing Fairs on behalf of members for some time and has gained considerable prestige in bring businesses together to forge strategic partnerships across the world. He expressed optimism that the inaugural event in Ghana will “increase economic momentum and create opportunity for new partnerships” with resultant progress in economic and political relationship between Turkey and Ghana.

Fifty one exhibitors from various sectors are taking part in the four day event holding till Saturday at the Movenpik Hotel. Visitors, business men and SMEs are expected from all over Ghana during the four-day Fair.

The opening ceremony was graced by Ministers, Diplomats, Businessmen, traditional rulers and several other people.
