Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has ended a four-week proficiency training programme for agents who engage in imports and exports on behalf of declarants.

The training was to get the agents abreast of ongoing customs programmes and innovative trade facilitation initiatives to speed up processes within the port communities.

In addition the programme is to enhance service delivery at the port.

Mr Jacob Adorkor, the Director of the Tema Port, said the course was to give clearing agents knowledge about customs functions to enable them to deliver quality service to their clients.

The training programme was centred on core customs functions including classification, taxation, and examination of goods and customs procedures.

Mr Adorkor said the port was going through intensive transformation that aimed at ensuring quality service delivery to clients.

Mr Richard Patrick Yawuste, the Acting Deputy Commissioner in charge of Policies and Programmes, said in order to achieve quality service delivery, customs had begun a cleaning out process to sieve out persons who used one Customs Proficiency certificate for multiple organisations.

Mr Adedapo Adegoke, the Customs Liaison Manager for West Blue Consulting, took the agents through the Ghana National Single Window (GNSW) programme which is a one stop shop for all trade information and port processes for better, simpler and faster clearance of goods.

He said Risk Management was a key component of the GNSW programme.
