Headlines Embattled Obinim to run to court for bail
AUG 24, 2016 LISTEN

The lawyer for embattled preacher, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has said he may go to court to demand bail for his client if the Police fails to grant them the request.

Atta Kyea told Citi News “if they [Police] don't grant him bail we will resort to the court to grant him bail.”

Obinim was arrested on Tuesday after he turned himself in to the Police for allegedly defrauding someone of an amount of GHc11.6 million .

He has come under severe public bashing for flogging some teenagers in his church publicly for allegedly committing fornication. Obinim has further explained that the teenagers were his adopted children and he was directed by God to punish them.

Atta Kyea while speaking to Citi News also dispelled claims that Bishop Obinim tried running away from investigations.

“He couldn't just move from Kumasi to Accra on the spur of the moment, he flew here voluntarily so how can anybody say he is running from investigations.”

Meanwhile, Citi News' Franklin Badu Jnr reported that, the embattled preacher who is still in Police custody is likely to be granted bail today [Wednesday].

Supporters besiege Police station
Supporters of Obinim on Wednesday besieged the Police headquarters  in Accra where the preacher was sent to demand his release.

They were subsequently dispersed by the Police with water cannons and pepper spray.

Obinim moved to undisclosed location
The Police subsequently moved Bishop Obinim to an undisclosed location pending further investigations.
