Four persons have been arrested in the Ho West district of the Volta region with 2,172 slabs of substance suspected to be Indian Hemp.

The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) intercepted the illegal consignment being conveyed in a KIA truck with registration number GE 1782-11.

The four arrested in connection with the haul are Mohammed Umaru, Driver; his mate Wahab Abdulai; owner of the contraband, Stephen Avega; and Evans Isahaku a loader.

The illegal consignment was loaded from Kpeve and heading to Togo when it was intercepted at the Honuta border post.

According to Graphic.com, Mr. Frank Cudjoe Ashong the Assistant Commissioner of CEPS in charge of Ho sector, disclosed that when the vehicle pulled up at the border post at 8.15am the driver of the vehicle declared the items to be local rice.

But upon further checks customs officers detected a hard substance suspected to be Indian hemp wrapped in 2,172 and concealed in 85 bags.

The driver and mate of the vehicle, the owner of the load and a loader have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Board together with the intercepted substance for further investigation in Accra.
