Danchira land back to owners

Accra, Aug. 4, GNA - Nii Ayerkai Akrama II, and four others including Ebenezer Ocloo, Togbe Ocloo and Vincent Ocloo, have won a case at the Supreme Court brought against them over the Danchira land.

The Supreme Court unanimously overturned the judgement of the Court Appeal and upheld the judgement of Tanko J at the High Court in February 2010.

Tanko Amadu J's Judgment was thus the Judgment of the Supreme Court.

The matter was finally settled on the July 28, 2016 when the Supreme Court by a 7-0 decision dismissed an application for review brought by FKA Co. Ltd and Djan Bi Amoo Family.

The Danchira land is owned by four composite families known as Sawerpramano, Amanfo, Juaben and Kubershishi families.

FKA Company and Nii Teiko Okine the then Head of the Djan Bi Amoo Family in February 2010 brought the case against the family at the High Court in February 2010 presided by Tanko Amadu.

The elated family members organised a news conference in Accra on Thursday to throw light on the case.

Mr Mark Tetteh Okine, Stool Secretary of Danchira said the village was founded by their forefathers comprising Numo Aryetei Akrama and his brother Numo Mensah Osoro, Numo Laakote, Numo Ayitey Boafo, Numo Ayi Kwame and Numo Kobina Larteh.

'The descendants of these old men constitute what today is the four composite families of Danchira- Sawerpramano, Amanfo, Juaben and Kubeshishi.

'From its inception our forefathers allowed others to settle on their land,' he said.

He said the land was sold on 20 July, 1974 and leased to Mr Vincent Ocloo to farm on it.

'You have all heard of Ocloo Farms. It was once very vibrant, producing food crops and livestock to feed the country.

'Several times it won awards during the National Farmer's day events. Ocloo Farms was established by Mr Vincent Ocloo. Today the Farm is dead. Djan Bi Amoo sold all of the land on which Ocloo farmed to FKA Company Limited whose Managing Director is Frederick Kofi Asare.

'He brought a bull dozer onto the land to destroy plants. The whole farm was destroyed; then Kofi Asare started to sell the land to developers. '

He warned that apart from the heads of composite families acting in conjunction with the consent and concurrence of the principal elders, no one, has the authority to deal with the Danchira Land.

'All who have purchased Land from Djan Bi Amoo or FKA Co. Ltd. have purchased nothing, 'he said.
