No Lawyer for George Boateng

Lawyer Kingsford Debrah, counsel for George Boateng, who attempted to contest President John Dramani Mahama in the primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has been arraigned before court for sanitation offence, has withdrawn from the case.

Richard Delali of the Madina District Magistrate Court 1 disclosed this at the hearing of the case yesterday.

The magistrate however did not disclose reasons for the withdrawal notice the lawyer had served the court.

But the prosecutor, Lambert Kwara, prayed the court for an adjournment of the case, which the court agreed and adjourned until August 10, 2016.

Earlier, Mr. Boateng told the court that he was prepared to defend himself and urged the court to hear the case as scheduled.

 
Tussle over cash
Later in an interaction with DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Boateng claimed that since the case started in July, this year, he had paid his lawyer GH¢600 but he later demanded GH¢5,000.

Mr Boateng therefore demanded a refund of his money which the lawyer claimed he had used to pay for his bail charges.

According to Mr Boateng, he reported the conduct of the lawyer to the General Legal Council, adding that he also lodged a case of fraud against him at the Madina Police Station.

He stated that the officer in charge of the case at Madina Police Station, one Ahenkorah sent him a text to invite him to state his position on the matter, adding that all efforts to retrieve the money from the lawyer had proved futile.

Mr Boateng, popularly referred to as 'Bombo' for his harsh criticism of government, was arraigned before the court for sanitation offence on July 13, 2016 following a bench warrant that was issued for his arrest.
