Guidance Notes
The Ghana Garden and Flower Movement, presents the 2016 Garden and Flower Awards!

The awards, inaugurated at the 2015 Ghana Garden and Flower Show, are designed to celebrate gardening achievements in Ghana and exemplary work with regard to gardening and flower cultivation and thus encouraging others.

ELIGIBILITY
All homes, organizations and institutions within Ghana are eligible if their garden or floral display has a strong visual impact and is clearly visible from a public roadway. They are all helping make Ghana beautiful and can enter for an Award!

JUDGING CRITERIA
GFS Judges will assess gardens using the following criteria:

Attractiveness and Visual Impact:
• 40% of overall marks will be awarded for this.

• Critical look at the impact the garden or display makes from the public roadway.

• Overall design and general effect ( variety of plants, color, quality of plants, upkeep and “wow” factor will be taken into account ).

• Inclusion of features in Garden(ponds, fountains, bird/insect box, bird feeders).

• Recycling (compost bins, imaginative/practical use of materials).

Horticultural Excellence
• 40% of the overall marks will be awarded for this.

• Judges will consider the variety of planting- looking out specifically for the presence of native plants -and the quality of cultivation and maintenance.

Overall Presentation
• 20% of the overall marks will be awarded for this.

• Judges will look for gardens and displays that are neat and tidy, free from litter, weeds and generally well maintained.

HOW AWARD WORKS
The Ghana Garden and Flower Show Awards are designed to celebrate your gardening achievements, whatever your level of experience or expertise. We use a system of awarding Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, so gardens and displays of all levels can receive an Award.

We give awards under several categories which include:

• Best Private garden
• Best Institutional garden
• Hotel
• Business
• Hospital
• Best Religious Institutional garden
• Church
• Mosque
• Best School garden
• Most attractive Exhibitor booth
The Award Ceremony will take place as part of the 4th Edition of the Ghana Garden and Flower Show Event, from the 8th to 14th of September 2015 during the closing ceremony of the show.

HOW TO ENTER
The easiest way to enter the Ghana Garden and Flower Show competition is by email:

• Download and complete the entry form on our website www.gardenandflowergh.com.

• Attach the entry form to an email.
• Also attach to the email, two colour photographs of your garden.
