'Desist from spreading false information about schools'

Accra, July 28, GNA - Mr Felix O. Ohene, the Headmaster of the Ministry of Health Basic School in Accra, has condemned the attitude of some individuals who spread false information about schools.

He alleged that some individuals, at the slightest instance, run down the schools bringing the institutions into disrepute just to satisfy their personal scores.

He described such acts as 'mischief' which must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

Mr Ohene was speaking during the school's 40th anniversary celebration on the theme: 'Forty Years of Academic Excellence, the Success Story of a Public Basic School.'

He lauded parents for their enormous sacrifice and commitment to improve the lot of the school.

'The huge edifice that we see here together with the ongoing beautification project is all by the kind courtesy of our dynamic Parent-Teacher Association (PTA),' he said.

Mr Ohene expressed gratitude to the PTA for complementing government's efforts to provide the best environment for learning.

He said as much as they had chalked successes there were still some challenges faced by the school such as utility bills payment which consumed a chunk of the levies paid by parents.

Mr Ohene noted that the school needs a bus to facilitate field trips to enhance teaching and learning, while the PTA building also needs to be completed and the car park and the main entrance must be face-lifted.

He, therefore, appealed for assistance to solve those challenges to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

Mr Peter Attafuah, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, said the school was established in 1975 when the need arose to provide a primary school with a nursery and Junior High School attached in subsequent years for the Korle-Bu Community.

The school prides itself of being rated the first in the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination of both public and private schools by the Accra Metropolitan Education Directorate.

The anniversary was climaxed with a 'What Do You know' for the children, a presentation to the Children's Ward of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and a thanks-giving service at the Korle-Bu Community Chapel.
