Friends and family of the convicted Montie FM contemnors as well as National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters on Thursday evening held a candle light vigil in solidarity with the trio.

The vigil started at 7:00pm on Thursday at the premises of pro-NDC radio station Radio Gold at Latebiokoshie in Accra.

The solemn vigil was attended by scores of people clad in white or T-shirts embossed with photos of the three.

The vigil, which was dotted with occasional prayers for the three, is seen as part of a bid to get them released.

Salifu Maase, host of Pamapaso, a political talk show on Montie FM, as well as Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, two panelists on the show, were sentenced to four months in prison and fined Ghc10, 000 each.

The panelists threatened to kill Supreme Court judges over their handling of the lawsuit on Ghana’s voters’ register.

The host is said have fuelled the threatening comments.

However, many see the sentence as harsh and an attack on free speech.

The local language radio station is a pro-government radio station owned by senior members of the NDC.

Meanwhile, a book of petition to get President John Mahama to intervene has also been opened at the premises of Radio Gold.
