Award winning hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame, has marked this year's World hepatitis B Day in Ho with free medical screening and vaccination for residents.

The exercise in its seventh year, was instituted by the musician to fight the prevalence of hepatitis infections in the country.

The versatile rapper, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), and MDS Lancet Laboratories, have mounted medical set up at the premises of Ghana Post to screen and vaccinate residents of the Ho Municipality.

Hundreds of residents of Ho and its environs, thronged the premises for free medical screening and vaccination as well health education.

Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus. It is a major global health problem that can cause chronic infection and put people at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer.

According to Okyeame Kwame “World Health Organization rates Ghana as a high-risk country of Hepatitis B between 10 and 15 percent.

The prevalence rate is still high and there is a need for all to get tested and vaccinated, he noted.
