Mr. Anthony Gingong, a Director in charge of operations at the National Health Insurance Authority Head office in Accra has won the NDC primaries held on Saturday 23rd of July 2016 in the Bunkpurugu Constituency.

Five people contested seeking to be elected as a candidate for the NDC party , Mr. Tahiru Jagong , A Teacher at Nakpanduri Business Senior High School. Dr. Benson Konlan Boikum, A Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of the Public Health Unit of the University for Development Studies Medical School in Tamale. Mr. Anthony Gingong, Director of Operations at NHIA –Accra , Mr. Duut Abulai Bonchel , A Teacher , Former PWD Secretary and 2012 Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in Bunkpurugu Constituency and finally Mr. Azumah Konlon , a Manager at Consolium Civil Engineering Company in Accra and a regular participant of the National What Do You Know quiz showing on GTV.

A total voting population of nine thousand and six people conducted at twenty-seven clustered polling stations witness the exercise, voting started at 7 am and ended at 5pm . Earlier we were told that voting will end at 3pm but because Bunkpurugu is one of the farming towns in the District , the electoral authority of the NDC from National and Regional level in collaboration with the EC decided that they will shift the time to 5pm to enable more voters to participate in the exercise.

Out of the nine thousand and six registered voters, Six thousand six hundred and forty-five (6645) valid votes were cast, and one hundred and eighty-three (183) votes rejected. Hon Anthony Gingong pulled 2,542 votes , leaving his main contender Dr. Benson Konlan Biokum with 2,271 votes , while the rest Mr. Tahiru Jagong ,recorded 1,066 votes. Mr. Abulai Duut Bonchel pulled 570 votes and Mr. Azumah Konaln collected the remaining 196 votes.

The exercise was very peaceful as no incident was recorded before, during and after the elections. The District EC Officer Mr. Lawrence Akundikiya announced the results at the collation center and officially declared Mr. Anthony Gingong as the winner of the friendly contest of National Democratic Congress party (NDC) in Bunkpurugu.

Dr. Benson Konlan Boikum who was present at the collation centre after the declaration, took the stage to declare his unflinching support to his younger brother Mr. Anthony Gingong. “I stand here to declare my support for you and to announce that no groups or boundaries within us exist anymore , you have emerge the winner and we will all come out wholeheartedly to support you to take our seat back from the NPP ”–Dr Benson.

Mr. Anthony Gingong, the newly elected NDC parliamentary candidate, called on all members of the NDC in area to remain focus and united. According to him, the tasked ahead is to ensure that come November 7 or December 7 elections he should be elected and declared winner as MP for Bunkpurugu Constituency. He was confident of winning the seat for NDC come this year’s elections but noted that, this can only happen when the NDC unanimously come out as one people and support him strongly.

The NDC national executives led by Mr. Sidii Abubakari Musah, National Youth Organizer, National Women Orgernizer. Regional Director of elections for NDC who doubles as Regional Treasurer Mr. Rashid Tanko Computer. Alhaji Abio , Regional Youth Organizer. Alhaji Fridays, a former MCE for Tamale metro and others were present to monitor the elections.

Several residents in Bunkpurugu and surrounding communities poured out in numbers to witness the elections, Final results was announce by EC after 9:30pm.
