Methodist Church Ghana honours Men's Fellowship founders

Accra, July 26, GNA - The Association of Methodist Men's Fellowships of the Methodist Church Ghana has instituted the 'Koomson/Ackah/Enchia Memorial Lectures' to honour the founding fathers for their hard work that had left an indelible mark for posterity.

The Annual Memorial Lectures is also to honour God for raising men of vision; both Clergy and Lay, who initiated the idea and started the Men's Fellowship of Methodist Church Ghana 40 years ago.

It is also to acknowledge and cherish the works of these visionary men and immortalise their names for the future generation.

The founders; namely Right Reverend Thomas Wallace Koomson, Past President of Conference, Mr David T. Ackah, the first Connexional Chairman of the Association of Men's Fellowships, and Mr Albert Ernest Enchia, the First Chairman of the first branch of Men's Fellowship at Calvary Society of North Accra Circuit, started the Men's Fellowship in 1976 as a move to awaken the 'Sleeping Giants' to take their rightful place in the church.

The Fellowship first started in the Calvary Society, Adabraka, Accra, on August 1, 1976, with 34 members and spread to the various dioceses.

Speaking on the theme: 'Now Praise We Great And Famous Men,' Most Reverend Titus K. Awotwi Pratt, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, praised the forefathers for mobilising men to strengthen the Methodist faith and work for the Lord.

'Their bodies are buried in peace but their names liveth forever.

'Their names will remain indelible on our minds and the depth of gratitude we owe them will remain alive in our heart. Methodist Church Ghana will pride herself under God that once upon a time we had such men of courage, vision, dedicated to the course and were able to stand the challenges to make a mark in the church's history,' he said.

He, therefore, urged the youth to learn from the exemplary lives of the forefathers and apply them to the living conditions of today to make a contribution to the development of the Methodist Church and the entire nation.

Most Reverend Pratt charged the leadership of the church to rediscover the Methodist heritage of teaching and imbibe them in the youth to enable them to do what the Lord expects of them.

Citations were presented to members of the Association for their immense contribution to the growth of the church.
