Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur has told China not to create the impression that Ghana cannot survive on her own.  According to him, the country has the potential to develop and to make sure its citizens are able to cater for themselves.

In his keynote address to officially open an investment forum between Ghana and China in Accra, last Friday, he said Ghana was only seeking investors who would have confidence in the country to do business, which should not be misconstrued to mean Ghana is so hopeless.

“Ghana is not looking for charity. We only need investors to invest in the country, that is why we organize this forum to show people from China how they can invest in Ghana,” he said.

According to him, the relations between Ghana and China has expanded to include other areas, apart from the economy, and “this was evident when the Chinese government funded the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

He further noted that, Ghana-China bond had demonstrated impressive economic growth amongst the ordinary people, and cited that the economy gains were as a result of the good democracy (social and political stability).

At the same forum, the Ambassador of People Republic of China (PRC) to Ghana, H.E. Sun Baohong, in her address described the forum as a mark of another important meeting in the relationship between the two countries (Ghana and China).

She said both countries should be there for each other at all time and to extend a helping hand when there is the need to do so. “We need each other. We need to come to each other's aid in times of difficulties,” she noted.

She revealed that, China was ready to strengthen its relationship with Ghana by signing an agreement with the government of Ghana to improve industrial development.

“There would be misunderstanding as we try to strengthen our relationship, but let’s come together to fight every obstacles,” she urged.

The minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Ekow Spio Gabrah, on his part said the desire of Ghana was to become a focal point of investment in Africa.

He added that: “Ghana offer itself as an ideal location for business. It would be proper to set up your factories in Ghana than to import raw materials from China to do business in Ghana.”
