Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE on Sunday indicated that a 40-year-old police dispatch rider, General Corporal Michael Essel, met his untimely death in an accident in Cape Coast in the Central Region.

The king had earlier paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama on Friday at the Flagstaff House.

The body of Corporal Michael Essel has been deposited at the mortuary of the Central Regional Hospital for autopsy.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Stephen Anokye, said the accident happened at about 3pm on Saturday.

According to him, the delegation was heading towards the Elmina Castle from Accra when the accident occurred at the Child Care International School junction on the Cape Coast main road.

He indicated that a 61-year-old man,   Asafo Agyei Emmanuel, who was driving a Ford from Nkanfoa, failed to stop for the convoy, resulting in the accident.

Mr Anokye added that Asafo Agyei, who was driving at top speed, crashed into the dispatch rider, killing him instantly.
