Accra, July 23, GNA- A banking square has been inaugurated on the University of Ghana (UoG) campus to help augment financial activities and provide services to the Legon community.

The banking square which is a partnership between seven banks was pre-financed by the UoG.

The seven member banks are Prudential, Access, HFC, Stanbic, Cal Bank, Universal Merchant Bank and Unibank.

Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, the Vice Chancellor of the UoG, said the decision of extending the southern part of the campus was birthed in 2007.

He said: In 2011, management decided to have some commercial presence on campus, as the number of people sharing the campus with them had changed.

'Accra has changed and the university has to respond to that change and take advantage of the change,' he said.

Prof Aryeetey thanked the Managing Directors of the seven banks for partnering with the management of UoG for their goal to be realized through their support adding that the university community was happy and ready for the new change.

'These banks can provide financial services to about 3000 students on campus,' he said.

Mr Felix Nyarko-Pong, the Managing Director (MD) of Unibank, on behalf of the banks pledged their commitment to provide students and the university community better banking services.
