Five persons are contesting the upcoming governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Primary slated for July 23 in the Bunkprugu constituency of the Northern Region.

They are Jagong Tahidu, Azumah Konlan, Duut Bonchel Abdulai, Dr. Benson Boinkum Konlan and Bueteem Anthony Gingong.

The party’s regional Director of elections, Tanko Rashid alias computer disclosed this to Citi News.

He said the necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure free, fair and transparent primary.

The upcoming primary follows a Tamale High court’s dismissal of a failed aspirant, Namburi Derrick’s interlocutory injunction on an earlier primary in 2015.

The presiding judge, Justice Charles Gyamfi in his ruling fined the litigant Ghc20,000 for damages.

The Bunkprugu constituency remains the only area in the Northern Region where the governing NDC lacks a Parliamentary candidate for the 2016 polls.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the 2012 polls wrestled the seat from the NDC.

A social development expert, Hon. Solomon Boa is the incumbent Member of Parliament and he is in the 2016 Parliamentary race.

The Bunkprugu constituency is one of the identified political hotspots in the Northern Region where there is ceaseless chieftaincy dispute between the Jafog and Jamong clans.
