Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, Chairman of the Ghana Cement Manufacturers Association (GCMA), has lauded the passage of the Ghana International Trade Commission Bill.

According to him, the Bill will provide protection to local industries, help generate revenue, as well as promote and attract foreign investments.

Dr. Dawson-Ahmoah, who is also the Chairman of the Tema Branch of the Association of Ghana Industries in an interview with the press, observed that the bill has come at the opportune time to provide trade contingency measures which has legal backing to protect the local industry.

Parliament has passed the Draft Bill for the establishment of Ghana International Trade Commission to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of international trade

The Bill, which now awaits the President's signature, seeks to establish the Ghana International Trade Commission as an independent quasi-judicial government agency.

It will empower GITC to regulate Ghana's international trade in conformity with the rules and regulations of the world trade system and deal with related matters.

Dr. Dawson-Ahmoah expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Parliament for their commitment in ensuring the passage of the bill, stressing that it would encourage the local industry to strive hard and compete fairly in the competitive market.

He expressed optimism that the bill would ensure fair competition for persons engaged in domestic production and international trade and protect the domestic market from the impact of unfair trade practices in the course of international trade.

He appealed to stakeholders, especially those in the business sector such as AGI to support the Bill and capitalize on it to support the local industry.
