Abuga Pele contemplates going independent

Paga (UE), July 20, GNA - Mr Abuga Pele, former National Coordinator of Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), says he would contest the 2016 parliamentary election as an independent candidate if his supporters urge him to do so.

Mr Pele lost his re-election bid to Mr Rudolf Amenga-Etego, as National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Chiana-Paga in the Upper East Region, during the delayed party primary.

'I will not hesitate to go independent when the grassroots of the party in the constituency demand so. The demands of the grassroots are important to me than anybody else.

'Most of the delegates are peeved for the manipulation. The continues postponements of the election and delay of the election in the constituency by the Regional and National Executives were all clear indications that they had their favourite candidate,' Mr Pele said.

He polled 4,177 votes against Mr Amenga-Etego, a legal practitioner and development worker who polled 4,337 votes. The third candidate, Mr Jonathan Nyaaba, polled 825 votes.

In all, 9,747 NDC voters turned out in the 53 polling centres. There were 9,339 valid votes cast and 410 ballots rejected.

In an interview with the GNA, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate elect pledged to work hard to win the seat for the party in the November 7 polls.

Mr Amenga-Etego said he would work with the lost candidate and his supporters to secure the seat for the party.

He appealed to all the delegates and supporters of the party to bury their differences and join forces with him to win the seat.

Mr Amenga-Etego in 2008 lost the primaries to Mr Pele and went independent but lost the election.
