NDC Reward for NDC campaigners' promise condemned
JUL 19, 2016 LISTEN

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) has been criticised for warning its members of no appointments for people who will fail to work to retain the party in power.

A Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Evans Aggrey Darko says the move will deepen the politics of exclusion in the country.

Members of the NDC were implored by the Deputy National Organiser of the of the party, Joshua Hamidu Akamba to campaign seriously to retain the party in power as government appointment will be based on their efforts.

While addressing some party faithful at a campaign launch in Jirapa in the Upper West region, Mr Akamba said: “The party is going to look at those who will be working very hard and after that, you will be rewarded.”

He assured the party faithful they will be allowed to choose people who work hard during the campaign for appointments after they win the 2016 elections.

But Dr Aggrey Darko insists this will hinder the development of the country as 'the skills needed to prosecute a campaign agenda is not the same set that is needed to govern a country.'

He said government appointments should be made based on competencies and not on campaign efforts.

Speaking on Joy FM's midday news, Mr Akamba stood his grounds and added that majority of his party members agree with him.

Despite admitting that the move could deepen the culture of nepotism and exclusion, Mr Akamba insisted the promise is to serve as a motivation to the party footsoldiers whom he believes are competent and qualified for government positions.

According to him, non-card-bearing members of the NDC who will work hard to get President John Dramani Mahama re-elected will also be rewarded.
