Habits play an important role in our daily life. They are a powerful controlling force and can make or mar your life depending on what kind of habits they are.

Good habits can help you live more positively. Bad habits can ruin your life.

According to Wikipedia: “Habits are automatic routines of behavior that are repeated regularly, without thinking. They are learned, not instinctive, human behaviours that occur automatically, without the explicit contemporaneous intention of the individual.”

It is important to note that habits are not restricted to our behaviours; our thoughts can become habits as well.

Here are keystone habits to consider if you want to live a happy, successful life.

Make reading a habit. Reading is to the mind what breathing is to the body.

There’s a good chance you already know the value of this habit, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this article. Reading helps you to soak up knowledge which you can apply to make positive changes in your life.

I advise that you read good books on business success, relationship success, health, parenting, career and personal development among others. Read about other places, people and their culture to enable you understand and relate well with them.

Reading can help broaden your mind and prepare you for a successful, fulfilling life.

Your health is pretty important and should not be left to chance. Being physically, mentally and emotionally healthy will enhance your creativity and productivity.

There are three important things to consider when it comes to physical health-sleep, nutrition and exercise.

Don’t collapse from exhaustion. Get good enough sleep every day.

Your body needs rest. Recreational activities will help you deal with stress which is a silent killer these days.

Doing exercise daily will help keep you physically great and healthy. You can do this in the gym. If you have no access to the gym, do some walking, jogging, weight lifting, running etc to improve the condition of your body.

You are also advised to eat nourishing food for a healthier life. Include fruits and vegetables in your diet. Drink a glass of water on waking every morning. This is a way of giving your internal organs a bath.

Carry a container of water wherever you go. Note that over-hydration exists. Simply drink water when you are thirsty.

Practice gratitude. Always count your blessings. What do you have for which you can be grateful for?

Aren’t you grateful to God for being here on this planet earth right now? What about your parents who have brought you up?

There is power in gratitude. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more things you will receive to be grateful for. Don’t keep yourself in poverty by your lack of gratitude.

Send somebody a note expressing gratitude for what he has done for you. It is the key to living a happy, successful life.

Make it a habit to do something every morning that is in alignment with your goals. This is one way of increasing productivity. Time is money, use it judiciously.

In conclusion, we should form good habits to enhance our chances of succeeding in life. Imbibing the aforementioned habits will position you to live a positive fulfilling life. Let good habits sink in for a marvelous and productive life.
