The Convention People's Party (CPP) has appointed two party officials to act as General Secretary and National Youth Organizer following the suspension of Nii Armah Akomfah and Ernesto Yeboah.

Asani Tano, who was a Deputy General Secretary in-charge of administration, will now be acting General Secretary while Nabila Basiru a Deputy Youth Organizer is to act as Youth Organizer.

The party's Central Committee suspended its General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and National Youth Organizer,Ernesto Yeboah for publicly chastising Mr. Greenstreet for his comment on President Mahama's Ford expedition gift saga.

The Director of Communications for the CPP, Abdul Kadril, said the appointments were made to fill the vacuum created since the suspension of the two.

“At any given point, there has to be someone yielding and exercising the authority and power as General Secretary of the party and at the same time as youth organizer, and so when you look at the constitution of the CPP, those that crafted the constitution made provisions for two deputy general secretaries and two deputy youth organizers and so clearly you can see the reason.”

“The reason is that, at some point in time, someone must be physically present and that is the main reason why the Chairman and the leader immediately has to approve and authorize the deputy General secretary and the deputy National Youth Organizer to fill vacuum so they will not be any space left.”

Suspensions not an endorsement of corruption

The party earlier clarified that the suspension had nothing to do with the party's stance on corruption.

Ernesto Yeboah had insinuated that the decision to suspend him was effectively an endorsement of corruption, but the party in a statement asserted that the duo were suspended for bringing the party's name into disrepute.

“This decision therefore, has nothing to do with the CPP's position on corruption. Rather it concerns the alleged conduct of these two officers in the public domain bringing the party's name into disrepute.”

Samia fueling CPP’s troubles
Some party officials have since the suspension, also accused  the party's presidential hopeful and immediate past Chairperson, Samia Nkrumah, of scheming and creating disorder and confusion in the party.

The Director of Communications of the CPP, Abdul Rauf earlier told Citi News that Samia Nkrumah is behind the agitations over the suspensions.

“Samia is actually an idol in that circle. Ernesto, the youth organizer does not live in his own house, he lives in the house of Samia Nkrumah and all of them, that is where they gather and hold their meetings. I'm proving to you that she is part of that platform and every discussion that is happening, it is happening under her eyes and she is aware of it.”

Abdul Rauf said his allegations were based on Samia's reaction after she was defeated, adding that “she made that baseless accusation that Ivor Greenstreet has been sponsored by the NDC.”
