CPP CPP suspends Gen. Secretary, Youth Organiser for disrespecting flagbearer
JUN 30, 2016 LISTEN

The Convention People’s Party (CPP), has suspended its General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and its National Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah, for what it described as gross acts of indiscipline.

The decision was taken at a Central Committee Meeting of the party today [Thursday], where the two were cited for publicly chastising and humiliating Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the flagbearer of the party, in the media.

The party argues that, Mr. Yeboah and Mr. Akomfrah have brought the party's name into disrepute, and have therefore been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for further action.

Pending this disciplinary committee hearing, the executives will cease to act in their official capacity.

Decision was unanimous
The National Chairman of the CPP, Professor Edmond Delle, revealed that the suspension “was a unanimous decision taken by the Central Committee.”

“What happened was that, the central committee took a decision that the youth organizer and the general secretary be referred to the disciplinary committee, but should remain suspended,” he explained to Citi News.

The two suspended executives will be expected to “answer some questions to explain why they have put the party into disrepute by their utterances and behavior and they will go there and try to justify,” according to Prof Delle.

He further noted that, the party believed that “no party member should say anything against the party without using the appropriate mechanisms because we have a way of discipline.”

Greenstreet’s comments on Mahama Ford ‘gift’ saga

This suspension is believed to be connected to the US$100,000 Ford vehicle gift offered President John Mahama by a Burkinabe contractor, which some have interpreted to constitute a bribe and a conflict of interest.

Mr. Greenstreet is on record to have said that, he saw nothing wrong with the acceptance of the gift on President Mahama's part despite the allegations of bribery.

This led to Mr. Yeboah and Mr. Akomfrah criticizing their flagbearer in the media for suggesting that the President broke no law by accepting the gift.

CPP Youth wing petition CHRAJ over car gift

The youth wing of the CPP, has since  petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), to investigate issues surrounding the US$100,000 ford vehicle given to the President.

But at his appearance at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Evening Encounter Series on [Wednesday], Mr. Greenstreet intimated that, the Youth League's comments and actions on the Ford Expedition Saga were not in line with the party's position.
