Politics 'I am not an agitator for other people's political intentions' – Ivor Greenstreet
JUN 28, 2016 LISTEN

The flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet says he is not a political agitator to be used to serve other people’s political intentions.

He was responding to questions on the President Mahama’s acceptance of a Ford Expedition gift from a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe.

Mr Greenstreet told Joy News’ on June 16 when the news broke that he sees nothing wrong with the President receiving a gift from the contractor after he had been awarded two contracts from government.

He said “I don’t have a feeling that there is a breach of protocol or conflict of interest” dismissing talks about impeachment as ridiculous after two lawyers argued that the president has breached Article 284 of the Constitution.

Taking his turn at the Evening Encounter With The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Tuesday, he said a group of people was agitating against the president and wanting him to join their bandwagon to pursue a particular agenda and cause they have.

He slammed the attitude of individuals being indicted, accused and tried on radio and found guilty before they are given a chance to respond.

He cited the instance where former president Kufour was called an armed robber, which he criticized as denigrating to the presidency, a position he seeks to occupy.

Mr Greenstreet during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) congress in Kumasi accused the party of being corrupt, but was quick to add he wouldn’t turn around and call the President corrupt when he has no evidence.

He said there has to be a "proper evidence, proper investigation and a matter properly looked into before we jump up and down accusing people of doing specific things.”

The CPP Youth have come out to disagree with the flag bearer and have even gone ahead to submit a petition to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the possible case of conflict of interest and bribery in the President’s gift saga.

Mr Greenstreet said the CPP are entirely in favor of the implementation of the National Action Corruption Plan.

“We in the CPP, are totally oppose to corruption, whether petty corruptions or corruption at the top. We will try to do all we can to ensure it does not occur,” he assured.
