NPP NPP mocks Mahama's one million votes agenda in Ashanti Region
JUN 28, 2016 LISTEN

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says an agenda by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to obtain a million votes in its stronghold, the Ashanti Region, during elections in November can only be a joke.

“The NDC has to be advised that the era of propaganda, deception, lies as a tool to gain political capital is over,” said the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Stephen Amoah.

According to Mr Amoah, since the NDC assumed power some eight years ago, he cannot point to even four development projects undertaken in the region.

“The fact is that apart from the President [John Mahama] and the NDC trying to use other aberrant means of getting votes in the Ashanti Region [during elections on Novemeber 7], they will not even get 20% of votes in the Ashanti Region this time,” said Stephen Amoah on Top Story on Joy FM, Tuesday.

The President is currently in the Region as part of his campaign to get one million votes, or 50% of total votes, from the NPP stronghold.

The NDC flag bearer was greeted by hundreds of party supporters as he touched down at the Kumasi Airport on Tuesday, June 28.

The President said the NDC can clinch one million votes in the Region because of projects the governing party has undertaken during its eight years rule are evident.

He told party supporters in Twi that projects in water supply, roads, health, electricity and education in the Region are a testimony of the ruling party’s commitment to development the region.

In the last general election, NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 1,531,152 , representing 70.86% of total votes, while John Mahama managed 612,616 or 28.35% of votes.
