From Sebastian R. Freiku, Kumasi
COCOA FARMERS in the Bosome-Freho District in the Ashanti Region are set to receive free distribution of high-yielding and disease-resistant cocoa fertilizer under the government's fertilizer programme.

The first consignment has already been sent to the various communities for onwards distribution to help to revamp the cocoa industry and raise production levels. Mr. Dennis OwusuBoateng, the District Cocoa officer of the Cocoa Health Extension Division (CHED) of COCOBOD who disclosed this in an interview indicated that the fertilizer would go to farmers whose farms have been measured.

He stated that the division has so far received about 4,060 bags of fertilizers, which would be distributed to farmers whose farms had already be measured throughout the district and assured that exercise would continue until every farmer is covered.

Mr. Boateng also assured farmers whose farms are yet to be measured, not to lose hope because the next consignment will soon arrive and that officers in charge of measuring the farms are already at work.

He underlined the determination of the Division to make sure that the fertilizer and other agricultural inputs including chemicals were fairly distributed to all Cocoa farmers in the district which is the only way to increase the production of Cocoa in the country.

He, therefore, encouraged the youth to take to cocoa farming and said it was rewarding.
