The Ghana Highway Authority says the Accra-Aburi road will not be completely closed to traffic as repair works begin on Monday, June 27.

The Deputy Chief Executive in charge of maintenance at the Authority, Amin Baba Kassim Nuhu told Joy News one side of the Peduase Lodge-Ayi Mensah section will be closed to pave way for the slope repair works.

In January this year, motorists who ply the Accra -Aburi road raised concerns about some rocks gradually dislodging onto the road.

Early last week, the Authority announced that the repair works would take place from June 22 to November 19, 2016. The announcement also suggested that motorists use the Berekusu-Kitase bypass as an alternative.

As a result, some motorists assumed that both lanes of the road will be closed to traffic but Amin Baba Kassim Nuhu said vehicles can still move to and from Aburi and Accra using one lane of the dual carriage road.

He said traffic men will be on the road to direct road users on how to find their way round the blockade.

'We are all aware that there are some lose rocks up there and the immediate job we are going to do is to clear them and some may be bigger and as they come down the contractor may judge that it can pose danger and as a result, the road will be cleared completely at some point,' Mr Nuhu indicated.

He advised motorists to obey road signs to avoid any casualties during the period.
