Team EMBAK wins community service awards

Accra, June 25, GNA - EMBAK team of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, on Friday, won this year's community service awards, which is the second edition of the Osei-Kusi Foundation Awards Scheme.

EMBAK team, comprising students of UHAS, came first among six other participants from selected tertiary institutions, who were shortlisted for the finals.

Participants were asked to come up with voluntary projects by identifying a problem in the society and finding solutions to them.

After five minutes of presentation by the six teams and careful analysis by the panel of judges, the Youth Empowerment team from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Inspire team of the University of Ghana Legon, and the winning team EMBAK came top three.

Team EMBAK was presented GH₵ 10,000.00 to implement the dream project called: 'The Duta Water project: a town in crisis.'

The project aims at providing a borehole for the people of Duta in the Volta Region by which they hope to reduce cases of water borne diseases.

The community service awards by Osei-Kusi Foundation and Selfless4Africa, aims at helping young people to take up the spirit of volunteerism.

Osei-Kusi Foundation has impacted about 500,000 youth by supporting their education, providing personal development books and other assistance.

The Chairperson of the programme, Dr Joyce Aryee, Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries noted that, volunteering is very altruistic and it is intended to promote or improve the quality of human life and a catalyst for socio-economic development.

She encouraged each and every one to make a change in the life of a person in their little corner.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Minister of Youth and Sports said, Osei-Kusi, Dei-Tumi and the others need to be encouraged.

He asked the youth to be focused, strive to be different and take such events seriously.
