About 3,000 people are set to be recruited by Ghana's security forces this year according to the deputy interior minister, James Agalga.

According to the minister, the transparency of the recruitment process has improved significantly with the introduction of the online system.

He believes the new system has cut out any 'middlemen' who could end up defrauding potential recruits.

“Not too long ago, the police administration advertised in order to ensure that criminals don't take advantage of the recruitment exercise. Qualified applicants must go on the internet and apply online,” Agalga said.

“You don't need middlemen to apply and if someone comes to you and demands cash in order to aid you go through the process, immediately you should know the person is a criminal and wants to defraud you. The process is very transparent. You don't need anybody's intervention. If you are eligible you will be selected.”

Speaking at the 'Government for the People' forum held in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, James Agalga added that the transparency the new system offered created the opportunity for more people to be recruited by the various security agencies.

He stated that as a result of the recruitments, more youth would be taken off the streets and engaged in honest, legal work.

“The other security agencies will follow suit; the Prisons' Service, Immigration service and the Fire service are supposed to advertise and in all we are looking to recruit about 3,000 youth into the security agencies,” James Agalga said

“We believe strongly that It will go a long way to help us deal with our problem of youth unemployment.”
