NDC firebrand Kojo Twum Boafo has said the acting national chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party Freddie Blay lacks the moral right to talk about corruption.

He said Blay is under police investigation over some corrupt acts that occurred at the party’s headquarters last year of which he is “deliberately failing” to cooperate with the police to get to the bottom of the matter.

Mr Boafo was reacting to a news conference chaired by Blay, where the NPP demanded a bi-partisan probe into the car gift saga. Mr Blay who believes Parliament will do a good job on dealing with the matter also challenged the president to respond to the issue and clear his name.

“The president who is personally and directly involved in this bribery allegation has thus far refused to speak on matter, choosing, instead, to let his paid spokespersons. My message to His Excellency the President is this: Mr. President, please speak on your own behalf and in your own defense! The giver, your friend, has confessed that he has given his friend in government who has since helped him to secure government contracts a gift of a sports utility vehicle. Mr President, it will be better to come out and defend yourself because your friend, Kanazoe has confessed to giving you bribe” Mr. Blay stated.

He added: “You have also flouted your own code of conduct which debars any government appointee from talking gift. If our request does not yield results, we the NPP will be left with no other choice than to drag you Mr President to CHRAJ.”

In a response, Boafo said Blay should remove the log in his eyes before pointing to someone’s specks.

“I found it nauseating listening to Freddie Blay talk about corruption. Has he honoured his invitation by the police to assist in the investigation over the missing money at the party office? Do you remember how he dubiously activated a dormant account of the NPP, and managed to siphon millions of cedis to fund his and his boss Akufo-Addo’s travels and other dubious political activities,” Boafo stated.

He said: “The police is looking for him, he should go and answer questions on how the money got missing. How this man got the nerve to accuse President Mahama of corruption only God knows. Freddie Blay seems to be the hurricane of corruption because wherever he steps he never disappoints by clothing or dousing himself in corrupt activities.

“Freddie Blay who will have corruption chasing him to the grave should be the last person ever to open his mouth to talk about corruption. He should leave president Mahama alone because my president is innocent and incorruptible.”

Meanwhile, Mahama has dismissed the bribery allegations, describing it as baseless. The President told a gathering at Ashaiman during his ‘accounting to the people tour’ of the Greater Accra region that the allegations will not stick because Ghanaians are discerning.

"The allegation of corruption is baseless. Baseless accusations won’t win you the Presidency. Ghanaians are discerning and I believe come November 7, they will make their decision," he said.
