Accra, June 24, GNA - Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has called for the involvement of the youth in national consultation processes.

Speaking at a youth dialogue in Accra, he said there was the need to invest in the development and capacity of the youth.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said Africa could gain more income for support if all its programmes involved the youth as they constituted the labour force for future generation in national development.

He said the Ministry had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to recruit about 21,000 youth in various sporting disciplines across the country to equip them with skills to help them perform better.

Mr Ras Mubarak, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, called on stakeholders to invest in the youth to ensure their maximum participation in all programmes.

He said the youth programmes should be institutionalised to increase participation at the district and local levels.

Ras Mubarak entreated the youth to engage in voluntary work as it helps in building a formidable nation and urged Parliament to provide support for youth activities.

Mr Paa Kwesi Aidoo, the President of the National Union of Ghana Students, called on stakeholders to encourage youth participation and engagement at the grassroots.

Mr Aidoo appealed to the Authority to engage the youth at the grassroots through programmes to unearth their potentials.

He urged the youth to communicate their challenges in a more civil manner to achieve results.
