University Of Mines Lauds Efforts Of Iduapriem Mine

The Management of the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa has underscored the strong collaboration between AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine and the University. They acknowledged the contribution of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine to effective teaching and learning in the university, referencing, among other things, teaching and learning materials donated by mine to the school.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mineral Resources, Professor Newton Amegbey made these remarks when the South African High Commissioner to Ghana and Management of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine called on the University.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Amegbey who gave a brief history about the university said the school has been able to carve a niche for itself due to the unique programmes they offer in pursuit for academic excellence. He expressed appreciation to Iduapriem Mine for their collaboration with the university. “Iduapriem Mine has been resourceful during educational field visits and internships for our students” he noted.

Addressing the delegation, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Andrews Doku said, as the only mining university in the sub-region, they have been able to churn out good mining engineers both home and abroad who are contributing their quota in the extractive industry.

On her part, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana Her Excellency Lulama Xingwana said her outfit will ensure that the university partners some universities in South Africa to enhance teaching and exchange ideas in the area of mining to producing more qualified graduates to service the mining industry.

The delegation later visited some laboratories to see at first hand demonstration and research work of the students. She encouraged the students to eschew all forms of social vices and focus on their education to enable them be responsible persons in the society to become the Nelson Mandela’s and Kwame Nkrumah’s of their generation.
