NPP NPP's factory policy: Stop the noise, wait for details – Baako
JUN 22, 2016 LISTEN

Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Newspaper has slammed critics who have questioned the viability of New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate’s one district one factory policy.

According to Kweku Baako, describing the policy announced by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as unachievable when the NPP has not released a detailed plan of action to executing the policy is wrong.

Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr Baako said the only way to offer a constructive criticism of the policy is when the NPP releases its plan on how to it will execute the project.

Until that is done, saying the one factory one district project is not feasible is pointless, he said, adding “You have seen nothing and you are making noise about nothing.”

Mr Akufo-Addo announced the policy during a campaign tour of the Central Region Saturday June 19, 2016.

He told the teeming group of party supporters that the party wanted the private sector to flourish, “and we will help establish factories in every district to help create jobs for the people.”

But since he made the comments, he has been sternly condemned by critics most of whom are members of the governing National Democratic Congress. While some thought the policy is one that cannot be achieved, others believe the promise is only a rehash of what is being done by the government.

There were others who thought the NPP ought to have done a thorough analysis of the policy, detailing the value chain process, the cost involved and implications to the economy before announcing it but Kweku Baako however believes, Akufo-Addo did no wrong in announcing the policy the way he did.

He is certain that the NPP will come out with a comprehensive programme detailing how the project will be undertaken in the coming days.

He noted that if even the NPP is only able to put up 100 factories instead of the one district, one factory it proposes to make, some progress would have been made, "the country would have made some progres," he stressed.

He urged the critics to “wait for the documentation then you can comment.”

But the NDC Director of Elections Samuel Ofosu Ampofo insisted the policy is unachievable. He said after 12 years in Parliament as MP, Nana Akufo-Addo has nothing to show in terms of development in the Akyem Abuakwa Constituency.

He added the NPP flagbearer cannot be trusted to build factories in every district when he has shown a high level of incompetence as an MP.
