Two international bodies support healthcare in Ghana

The seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, largely targeting developing economies, have attracted the attention of several economic and health players, desirous of partnering the Global Body, to realize the projected 2030 ambition.

Two donor institutions (BCI and DR), keen on improving the health status of Ghanaians, have stepped up the campaign, of creating the needed awareness about the Non Communicable Diseases, clinically screening for Breast Cancer, Hypertension and Diabetes, donating assorted medicines to various health facilities across the country, among other things, in their bid to help deliver on the SDGs.

For the second time running in a month, the two public benefit Charities, Breast Care International (BCI), and U.S. based, Direct Relief, have donated drugs and medical consumables worth 4.3 million USD to predominantly deprived hospitals, polyclinics, clinics and health centers across the country.

At the presentation ceremony at the premises of Peace and Love Hospital in Adum, Kumasi, the President of BCI, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who doubles as the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, told those present that, the “quest and zeal of the two donor institutions to reach out to the needy  in society is motivated  and driven by the desire for a healthy, productive  population as envisaged by the 17 targeted U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, notably the third goal on “good health and well- being”.

Dr. Wiafe Addai commended Direct Relief, for remaining dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life and restoration of human dignity, while collaborating with health service organizations to donate medical supplies in some sixty countries.

She projected that BCI would continue to collaborate with like-minded institutions around the globe in the campaign to bring relieve and improve on the living conditions of Ghanaians, adding that BCI would stop at nothing to realize this mission statement.

The latest donation to over thirty health institutions comes barely a month on the heels of a similar donation to seventeen health facilities.

The current donation was put together by Johnson and Johnson Consumer Companies , Baxter international Inc., Tyco Healthcare group LP, 3M consumer Health care, Boehriger Ingelheim, Unilever, U.S.,  Covidien,  Merk & Co, Inc., Hospira, Ethicon, Becton Dickinson Consumer and Neutrogena Corporation.

Representing Drobo Polyclinic in Jaman South of the Brong-Ahafo region, Mr. M. Afful, speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, commended the donors and promised judicious use of the donated items.
