Nana Ofori Owusu, Progressive People's Party (PPP) Parliamentary candidate for Effutu Constituency has sermonized parents to make the educational needs of their children, the most top priority to enable them become prominent people in the society. He said education is the backbone of every nation’s development, thus it should be of great mantra of all parents to send their children to school.

Nana Ofori Owusu said these at two separate ceremonies to present a cheque of One thousand Ghana cedis as seed money from the Austin and Ghansah Educational fund to two private schools: Kings Academy Preparatory at fetteh, and the Rock of Ages preparatory schools at Sankor, all suburbs of Winneba in the effutu Constituency of the Central Region.

The Aspiring Member of Parliament also pledged to sponsor five brilliant but needy pupils from each school from primary to senior high school level, which forms part of the Educational fund to support those needy but brilliant pupils, adding that plan were underway to assist both schools with computers to help them establishes information and Communication Technology-(ICT) centers to further enhance the school’s academic programme.

The institution of Austin and Ghansah Educational Fund, according Nana Offori Owusu was to give back to the society what his Grandparents Austin and Ghansah benefitted from the Society.

“My grandfather Austin an Educationist who taught throughout the country and my grandmother, first female to establish vocational school in Winneba and also a Philanthropist-they deserve some befitting memorial for the benefit of Effutu, hence the institution of the Educational Scholarship for brilliant but needy Students not only for these two schools but the entire Effutu state”. He added.

He also called on parents, all and sundry both home and outside Ghana to shirk empty promises by both the New Patriotic Party (NPP)and the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) Candidates in the Effutu consistuency and their Presidential candidates, and vote for him and Dr.Papa Kwesi Nduom for the development of Ghana as a state, and to improve the lots of Ghanaians.

Mr. Jeffrey Okai, the Proprietor of Kings Academy preparatory thanked the PPP aspiring Member of Parliament for his move and said, the amount given to his school would be used for its intended purpose and said the school which started with 3 pupils from such a poor community about five (5) years ago has about five hundred (500) pupils.

He also advised Parents Teachers Association (PTA) members to change their attitude towards the welfare of their children since they are the future leaders.

Mr. Isaac Ghankumah, the proprietor of Rock of Ages preparatory school also called on philanthropists and other benevolent organisations to emulate the shining example of Nana Ofori Owusu to come and support them improve their infrastructural development.

He also showed his appreciation to the aspiring MP for his decision to support such schools through the Educational Fund for the brilliant but needy Pupils.

Rock of Ages according to the proprietor has about four hundred and fifty (450) pupils,and believes those to write their first BECE examination will bring successes to themselves and that of the school.

Present at both ceremonies were Nana Obirifo Kojo Tetteh III, Chief of Sankor, Mr Francis Owusu Ansah, the Effutu Municipal Coordinating Director,PTA members ,Paapa Eshun The consistuency Chairman of PPP and his executives.
